Details: The media outlet draws attention to the fact that the interactive map of military facilities in Crimea shows that the village of Maiak is home to the base of the 3rd Radio Regiment of the Russian Aerospace Forces' radio engineering troops.

In addition, there is the radar node of the Nebo-M radar station and the Kasta 2E radar station on the Tarkhankut peninsula in Crimea. Air defence positions have been prepared around the perimeter.

Background:

  • On the morning of 24 August, Krym.Realii, a project of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, citing local residents and intelligence sources, reported that a clash between watercraft and aircraft took place on Cape Tarkhankut in Russian-occupied Crimea. Media reports indicate that the fight broke out near the village of Maiak.
  • Telegram channel Baza claims that people staying at the campsite in Olenivka, located near Maiak, heard two loud shots. When people went out to see who was shooting, they saw two rubber boats with about 10 people on board about 10 metres from the shore. Then several more shots were heard, but this time from automatic weapons. The people from the boats started to swim away.
  • Later, Ukrainian Defence Intelligence confirmed that Ukrainian intelligence units had disembarked on the peninsula as part of a special operation on the morning of 24 August.
  • Ukrainian Defence Intelligence posted a video showing a Ukrainian flag being raised in Crimea.
