Almost half of Ukrainians believe situation at front will improve in winter, poll finds

A total of 46% of Ukrainians expect the situation at the front to improve in winter, while 34% of respondents are convinced that the state of the economy will worsen.

Quote: "Expectations regarding the situation at the front are the most optimistic: 46% believe in improvement. The economy is the leader when it comes to pessimistic expectations: 34% of respondents expect deterioration in this area, and 43% do not expect any changes. The energy sector is assessed as one that will improve (17 %) or will remain unchanged (43%)".

Details: Young people aged 18-35 are relatively more critical in their assessment of the situation at the front – 38% believe it will improve, while among older people aged 51+, 52% believe in a positive development of events.

Kyiv residents expect a worsening economic situation the most − 49%. Sociologists note that the younger and wealthier the respondents, the higher the share of people with negative expectations about the economy.

But when it comes to changes in personal circumstances in winter, negative expectations are more common among the poor. Among poor citizens, 28% expect their situation to worsen, while among the well-off, only 7% do.

In general, 64% of respondents expect no change in their personal situation, 16% hope for improvement, and 17% expect deterioration.

Regarding the potential situation with energy supply, 41% of respondents believe it will be better than last year, and another 49% are convinced that it will be the same as last year.

In general, 51% of respondents expect the situation in Ukraine to remain unchanged this winter, another 25% expect an improvement in the winter, and 21% expect it to deteriorate.

"More positive forecasts regarding the situation in general prevail among residents of the central regions, older people and the poor: among them, about a third believe in improvement," the sociologists note.

The survey was conducted on 22-23 November. 1,000 respondents aged 18 and over were interviewed by telephone based on a random sample of mobile numbers in all regions, except for the temporarily occupied territories of Crimea and Donbas, as well as territories where there was no Ukrainian mobile connection at the time of the survey. The sample is representative in terms of age, gender and type of settlement. The error of representativeness of the study with a confidence level of 0.95 is no more than 3.1%.
