- Zelenskyy previously said Ukraine had prepared to meet Witkoff and Kushner at the airport, but Russia effectively prevented them from flying in. The previous day, 5 September, the special envoys had held talks in Moscow.
- Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian ruler, said Vladimir Putin told the US envoys during Saturday's talks that he is confident his war aims will be achieved. The White House described the talks as "substantive" and announced that the next steps will be unveiled in the coming weeks.
