Quote: " It is highly symbolic that Mr Medvedchuk was detained on Cosmonautics Day. He has been hiding for 48 days, and finally decided to try to escape from our country. Well, the famous slogan ‘Let's go!’ did the dirty on this ‘astronaut’ in the bad sense of the word."

"I think it is especially cynical of him to use military camouflage. He tried to disguise himself in this way. Such a ‘soldier.’ Such a ‘patriot.’ Well, if Medvedchuk chose a military uniform for himself, he falls under the rules of war. I am offering the Russian Federation an exchange of this guy of yours for our boys and girls held in Russian captivity. It is therefore important that our law enforcement and military officials also consider this possibility."

Background:

The reports about the detention of the godfather of Vladimir Putin’s child were published on Tuesday evening, 12 April.

Since May 2021, Medvedchuk has been under 24-hour house arrest on suspicion of treason and an attempt to plunder state resources. Later, in October, another suspicion was added to the list - that of treason and aiding and abetting a terrorist organisation. Medvedchuk's wife, Oksana Marchenko, left for Belarus five days before the Russian offensive. She later published a video from Moscow.
