Russian army consolidates in Sievierodonetsk, launches airstrike on Sloviansk – Regional round-up

Russian forces are consolidating their hold on the centre of Sievierodonetsk, Luhansk Oblast, trying to dislodge units of Ukrainian troops in the areas of Bilohorivka and Vrubivka.

Details: Kharkiv Oblast: In the city of Kharkiv, the night was relatively quiet. During the day, the Russian occupiers were heavily bombarding settlements in the Kharkiv, Izium, Bohodukhiv and Chuhuiv districts of the Oblast. Two people were killed as a result of the Russian shelling, while five civilians were injured.

Luhansk Oblast: The invaders carried out attacks on the northern, southern and eastern districts of Sievierodonetsk and are consolidating their hold on the city centre.

The Russians are also attempting to dislodge Ukrainian troops from their positions in the areas of Bilohorivka and Vrubivka. They used assault and army aircraft in the districts of Komyshuvakha and Nyrkove.

On the evening of 31 May, the Russians attacked the Azot chemical plant using aircraft, resulting in the release of toxic substances.

In the afternoon, the invaders used artillery fire on the Proletarii plant in Lysychansk, and damage to several buildings was recorded.

There were two casualties over a 24-hour period.

Donetsk Oblast: The situation in the Oblast is tense.

Avdiivka Military Administration: Shelling continued throughout the night at positions around the city, and in the morning there was shelling of the old part of the city and the Avdiivka coke and chemical plant area.

Ocheretyne Military Administration: There was heavy artillery shelling of the village of Ocheretyne during the night. Partial destruction of the Citizens’ Security Centre, a shop, several residential buildings, and damage to the Administrative Services Centre building.

At 5 a.m. there was an air strike on Sloviansk. Three private houses were destroyed. No casualties.

Four people were killed and seven injured over a 24-hour period.

Mykolaiv Oblast: The night was relatively quiet in Mykolaiv.

Mykolaiv District: There was shelling of the town of Ochakiv on Wednesday morning. Preliminary information suggests that residential buildings were destroyed and damaged. One man was injured.

Bashtanka District: There was shelling in the hromada [amalgamated territorial community] of Shyrokivka during the day and night. A garage and a combine harvester were set on fire, no casualties.

Shelling continues in Bereznehuvate hromada. One person was killed. Information on injuries is being confirmed.

Kherson Oblast: Phone and internet connections have been down for almost two days in Kherson. The number of points of issue and sale of Russian SIM cards has increased across the city: to do so, people have to present their passports and apply for pensioners’ cards. The Russians claim that the Kyiv authorities have cut off communications [the Ukrainian side denies this – ed.].

The situation remains critical in occupied villages, where heavy fighting continues, particularly in the Velyko Oleksandrivske and Kalynivske territorial authorities.

In Dnipropetrovsk Oblast there were no sirens, but there was shelling of Zelenodolsk hromada, which borders Kherson Oblast. There were no casualties. Detailed information is being confirmed.

The night was relatively quiet in the remaining oblasts.
