Operation on Zmiinyi (Snake) Island continues: Armed Forces of Ukraine launch over 10 strikes – South Operational Command

The Armed Forces of Ukraine has launched 10 strikes on personnel and military equipment on Zmiinyi (Snake) Island and damaged a Pantsir-S1 surface-to-air missile.

Details: According to Humeniuk, the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched over 10 successful attacks on the island last night. A Pantsir-S1 surface-to-air missile has been damaged. The Ukrainian Armed Forces have already destroyed three such missiles in the same way.

Background:

  •       Intelligence chief Kyrylo Budanov has already stated that Ukrainian forces will not stop fighting for Zmiinyi Island, as control over the island enables the airspace above the South of Ukraine to be protected.
  •       Satellite images have captured the destruction on Zmiinyi Island after the Ukrainian Armed Forces launched attacks on the occupiers’ positions.
  •       On 17 June the Ukrainian Naval Forces hit a Russian tugboat which was taking a TOR surface-to-air missile, personnel and weapons to Zmiinyi Island.
  •       On 21 June it was reported that Ukrainian military forces had launched a concentrated attack on the occupiers’ garrison on Zmiinyi Island.
