Quote: "In Sievierodonetsk, the third "people's mayor" has been introduced – this time it was Mykola Morhunov, the former mayor of Briank in Yanukovych’s day and of the "Luhansk People's Republic".

Details: In addition, men in the occupied territories of Luhansk Oblast are allegedly being invited to work – and handed "summonses", sending them to defend the "new homeland".

Background

  • On the night of 24 June, the Ukrainian military left part of the industrial zone and Sievierodonetsk, as they received orders to withdraw to new fortified positions. Before that, Russian troops had controlled part of the city for some time and heavy fighting occurred.
  • On 25 June, the head of the Sievierodonetsk military administration, Oleksandr Striuk, said that the city was completely under Russian occupation and the invaders had already appointed their own "commandant".
  • On 3 July, the Ukrainian defence forces withdrew from Lysychansk, which was also preceded by heavy fighting.
