Mariupol: Occupiers pour concrete over bodies of those killed in Drama Theatre

STANISLAV POHORILOV – WEDNESDAY, 31 AUGUST, 2022, 11:29

During the so-called reconstruction of the Mariupol Drama Theatre, which was bombed in March, Russian occupiers are covering the area with chlorine and pouring concrete over the dead bodies of victims in order to hide them.

Details: According to local residents, the builders were ordered not to make a fuss and not to remove the corpses, but to "pour the concrete quietly".

One of the workers complained that the delivery of chlorine was delayed. According to him, "where there are large piles of corpses [in the building], chlorine is needed, and only then concrete [should follow]. If you just pour concrete on top of the corpses, the stench somehow penetrates even through a thick layer of concrete."

Background:

  • On 16 March, Russian forces dropped a heavy bomb on the Mariupol Drama Theatre, a shelter for hundreds who lost their homes in the war.
  • According to the Associated Press, about 600 people were killed as a result of the strike inside and outside of the building.
  • On 29 August, it was reported that Russian occupiers in Mariupol were "restoring" the Drama Theatre in order to cover up the murder of nearly 600 civilians.
