Quote: "The counteroffensive clears the area, and after that you have to control it and be ready to defend it."

Details: Reznikov reported that the counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Kharkiv Oblast went "much better than expected."

However, he warned that Russia may carry out its own counteroffensive, so it is too early to celebrate the victory. It is necessary to carry out work on liberation of territories.

According to him, the Ukrainian troops were tired after the six-day attack, but the morale was high, because "the Ukrainians wanted to go into this counteroffensive; we needed this counteroffensive, and this is a sign that Russia can be defeated."

Reznikov said the "Ukrainian blitzkrieg" was like a "snowball rolling down the slope", and it was Russia's biggest setback since the start of the full-scale invasion.

Background:

  • The Armed Forces of Ukraine are carrying out a counteroffensive on the territories of Ukraine occupied by Russia.
  • On 8 September, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed information about the liberation of the city of Balakliia, Kharkiv Oblast. It is now under control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
  • On 9 September, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine had taken control of more than 30 cities and towns in Kharkiv Oblast.
  • On 10 September, Kupiansk and Izium were liberated.
