Alexander Volfovich, the State Secretary of the Security Council of the Republic of Belarus, says there is no mobilisation in Belarus and none is planned; however, it is necessary to serve in the armed forces of the country.
Source: Belarusian state news outlet BelTA, quoting a statement made by Alexander Volfovich during a meeting with labour collectives in Gomel Oblast to discuss the military and political situation in Belarus and abroad
Quote from Volfovich: "There is no mobilisation in Belarus and none is planned. Today we are neutralising threats to our national and military security with the existing set of forces and resources of the national security system and the military organisation of the state."
Details: At the same time, referring to the ongoing conscription campaign, Volfovich emphasised that "service in the army is a constitutional duty" and it is "honourable".
Quote: "We are coping [without mobilisation - ed.]. But in order for them [the Belarusian Armed Forces - ed.] to be combat-ready, they must be equipped. Let the boys who have not served in the army gain experience, mature, and find friends. It is honourable to serve in the army today."
Background:
- Earlier, Alexander Lukashenko, the self-proclaimed President of Belarus, had confirmed that Belarus is taking part in the war in Ukraine, but is doing so allegedly by treating wounded Russian soldiers and providing food and shelter to Ukrainian refugees.
- Lukashenko has said there is no need to declare a mobilisation campaign in his country, although he has been preparing for war for the entire span of his presidency.
- Defence Intelligence of Ukraine’s Defence Ministry has reported that Lukashenko is aware that the announcement of partial mobilisation in Belarus may lead to disastrous reactions in society.
