Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence to Russian military in Kherson: only way to survive is to surrender

The Chief Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine is calling on the Russian soldiers who remained in Kherson to surrender.

Quote: "Russian servicemen! As expected, after the retreat of the main group of Russian army troops from the Ukrainian city of Kherson, your commanders abandoned you to your fate. Your commanders urge you to change into civilian clothes and try to escape from Kherson on your own. Obviously, you will not succeed.

Ukraine is taking Kherson back under its control, units of Ukrainian Armed Forces are entering the city. The retreat routes of the Russian occupiers are under fire control by the Ukrainian army. Any attempts to oppose the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be stopped. Every Russian serviceman who resists will be killed.

You have only one chance to avoid death: to surrender immediately. In the case of voluntary surrender, Ukraine guarantees your life and safety."

Details: The Ukrainian Chief Intelligence Directorate has given assurances that Ukrainians adhere to the Geneva Conventions and guarantee prisoners of war food, medical care and the possibility of being exchanged for servicemen of the Ukrainian Armed Forces captured by Russia.

"To surrender safely, having previously discussed the conditions of surrender with authorised representatives of the Ukrainian command, you can call the hotline of Ukrainian state project ‘Hochu zhit’ (I want to live): +38 066 580 34 98 and +38 093 119 29 84 (available 24/7) or use the chatbot ‘Hochu zhit’," Defence Intelligence advises.

Russians who do not have the opportunity to contact the "Hochu zhit" project are offered the following procedure: "Unbuckle the rifle magazine and hang the weapon on the left shoulder with the barrel down, raise your hands with a white flag (any white cloth will do), shout ‘I surrender!’, approach the Ukrainian military on command and comply with their demands."

There are also instructions on how to surrender as part of a group or unit: "Put down all weapons and leave, stand in front of your military equipment (before that, silence it: it should not be in combat mode), send a negotiator (an officer or a senior by rank), who must be unarmed and have a white flag".

Citizens of Ukraine from the occupied territories, who were forcibly "called up" and forced to fight on the side of the Russian Federation, should inform the Ukrainian military of this. At their interrogation, these individuals will need to provide their personal identification details: full name, rank, date of birth, personal number and other relevant information.

"Save your lives – surrender!", the Chief Intelligence Directorate urged.

Previously:

On 11 November, Russia’s Ministry of Defence claimed that all occupying forces had left Kherson and crossed to the left bank of the Dnipro River without suffering any losses; however, the Ukrainian government is aware that there are still Russian soldiers in civilian clothes in the oblast centre (Kherson).

Ukrainian defenders started entering Kherson on the afternoon of 11 November, and a Ukrainian flag was raised over the building of the Main Police Department. People went out into the streets to meet the Ukrainian soldiers in the centre of Kherson.
