Numerous Russian troops are being spotted in the occupied city of Skadovsk, which is located on the left bank of Kherson Oblast, and to the south from the city of Kherson.

Source: Oleksandr Yakovliev, the mayor of Skadovsk, citing information from local residents, in a comment for the Radio Liberty’s project Novyny Pryazovʼia (News of Azov)

Quote: "Many soldiers have settled in the city; they are everywhere, which also creates additional tension. Last week, we received reports about the additional arrival of soldiers. These, as I understand it, were some units from Kherson, maybe from some other cities, it is difficult to say…

They [the military – ed.] do not tell people much, except for their narratives that "we are here forever" and "we are brothers", and behave defiantly, as always".

Details: Yakovliev has also said that he receives information about the houses of local residents captured by the newly arrived Russian military.

In view of the hostilities and occupation of the southern part of Ukraine by Russia, it is impossible to officially confirm or independently verify this data.

Background:

  • On 11 November, the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine announced that Kherson returned under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
  • On 15 November, Operational Command Pivden (South) announced that the Russian occupation troops were moving 15-20 kilometres inland from their constructed frontiers on the left bank of the Dnipro River in Kherson Oblast; however, the South Defence Forces are taking the Russians’ logistics under their fire control.
  • On the same day, the General Staff of Ukraine reported that some units of the Russian occupation forces withdrew from the cities of Skadovsk and Henichesk in Kherson Oblast and are on their way towards Russian-occupied Crimea.
