Details: The SSU reported that the archbishop was spreading "posts" through social networks that disregarded the national honour and dignity of Ukrainians. He also contributed to inciting religious hatred and enmity.

In order to "disperse" destructive content, the rector of the institution used an anonymous Facebook account, and used the narratives of Russian propagandists to prepare his "publications".

In addition, during the search of the residence of the defendant and the premises of the seminary, law enforcement officers found literature that repeated the Kremlin's "theses" regarding the internal situation in Ukraine.

The archbishop was served a notice of suspicion under Art. 161.1 (violation of citizens' equality based on their race, nationality or religious preferences) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Background:

  • On December 1, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that the National Security and Defence Council (RNBO) instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to propose that the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament) institute a ban on the activities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate in Ukraine.
  • During the past few weeks, the Security Service of Ukraine has conducted a number of searches of UOC-MP premises in Kyiv and many oblasts. The searches are related to the propaganda of the "Russian world" in UOC-MP churches. Some priests have been notified of suspicion
  • In particular, searches were carried out in Zhytomyr, Rivne, Zakarpattia and other oblasts.
