The decision should be made this Thursday, Defence Minister Boris Pistorius said earlier.

As the media outlet notes, the aircraft discussed are five MiG-29 from the old stocks of the German Democratic Republic, which Germany had transferred to Poland in 2002.

The German government does not see a fundamental problem in this delivery, as it will only replenish Ukraine's aircraft fleet, the media outlet emphasises. Unlike the supply of Western fighter jets, the supply of MiG-29 aircraft does not add a new quality to the equipment of the Ukrainian armed forces.

Poland requested Berlin’s permission to deliver the aircraft to Ukraine on Thursday.

In 2002, Germany sold 23 MiG-29 fighter jets to Poland, which the Bundeswehr inherited from the army of the German Democratic Republic.

Jacek Siewiera, security adviser to Polish President Andrzej Duda, said in late March that the Polish Air Force still has about a dozen of these aircraft in service.

Background: Last week, Polish President Andrzej Duda said that his country had already sent eight MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine.
