Russia launches 44 missiles and 659 drones, Ukrainian air defence downs 667 aerial assets

Russian forces attacked Ukraine with 44 missiles and 659 drones of various types over the course of the past day. Ukrainian air defence systems have managed to down 667 aerial assets, including 31 missiles.

Details: Between 07:00 on 15 April and 07:00 on 16 April, Russian forces conducted two waves of combined strikes on Ukraine, using ground- and air-launched missiles and attack drones.

"Early reports indicated that as of 07:30, [Ukrainian] air defence forces had destroyed or jammed 667 aerial assets: 19 Kh-101 cruise missiles; 8 Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles; 4 Iskander-K cruise missiles; and 636 Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas types and other types of drones. Hits by 12 missiles and 20 UAVs had been recorded at 26 locations and the fall of downed aerial assets (debris) at 25 locations. Information regarding one cruise missile is being confirmed," the Air Force reported.

In total, the Air Force's air surveillance troops detected and tracked 703 aerial assets:

  • 19 Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles
  • 20 Kh-101 cruise missiles
  • 5 Iskander-K cruise missiles
  • 659 drones of various types.

Aircraft, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare assets, unmanned systems units and mobile fire groups from Ukraine's defence forces were involved in repelling the attack.

As of the morning of 16 April, the attack is ongoing, as several Russian drones are still in Ukrainian airspace.

Background:

  • The overnight Russian attack has killed at least 12 people.
  • Eight people were killed in Odesa, four in Kyiv and two in Dnipro.
