Drone nearly hits Zelenskyy’s plane as it leaves Moldova, Norwegian PM says

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre has said a drone almost crashed into the plane carrying Ukraine's president Volodymyr Zelenskyy and first lady Olena Zelenska as it was leaving Moldova for Oslo.

More details: Støre did not provide any further details or say whether he has received the information personally from Zelenskyy or the Ukrainian side.

His comment also did not make clear whether the incident was deliberate or more likely accidental.

Støre also said that, during a brief conversation in the morning, he asked Zelenskyy how his night was. The Ukrainian president replied that he could not describe it as good because he was receiving reports of where the latest Russian strikes hit.

Background:

• On 8 September, Moldova's Ministry of Defence reported an airspace violation by a drone believed to be a Shahed-type UAV. The violation of the country's airspace occurred at around 16:20 local time. Later, reports said a drone fell in a field, though its type was not specified.
• Later that day, Romania scrambled two fighter jets after detecting a violation of its own airspace. Iași airport temporarily suspended operations.
• On the night of 8-9 September, Russian drones once again attacked border infrastructure on Ukraine's border with Moldova.
