Zelenskyy: Regrouping is part of Russia’s tactics, battles lie ahead

Kateryna Tyshchenko – Thursday, 31 March 2022, 23:56

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine has said that Russia is redeploying its forces from those fronts where the Armed Forces of Ukraine have been successfully repelling them to those where it might be difficult for Ukrainian troops to fight them.

According to Zelenskyy: "North of Kyiv, on the Chernihiv front, and in the Sumy region, our troops continue repelling the occupying forces. They [the Russian troops] themselves are beginning to understand that they will not be able to sustain the same intensity of combat action as they were able to provide in the first half of March.

But we must understand that for the Russian forces, this is part of their strategy… They are withdrawing from those fronts where we are beating them in order to concentrate on other, very important, areas, where it might be very difficult for us [to fight back]."

Details: President Zelenskyy warned that "battles lie ahead."

"We still have a very difficult path ahead of us before we can have everything that we want to have," he said.

Zelenskyy called for restraint in emotions and feelings.

  • Oleksiy Danilov, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council, reported that some of the units that Russia is withdrawing from the Kyiv and Chernihiv regions are redeployed on the Kharkiv and Donetsk fronts.
  • Russian Ministry of Defence claimed that Russian forces have completed the "main tasks" on the Kyiv and Chernihiv fronts and are regrouping to capture Donbas completely.
  • The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said that Russia wants to gain control over parts of the Kharkiv, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions, and to blockade Kramatorsk and Slovyansk. Russian occupying forces are currently creating a new grouping of troops on the Slobozhansk front.
  • Meanwhile, the Armed Forces of Ukraine note a partial withdrawal of battalion-tactical groups of the Russian troops from Kyiv. Ukrainian forces continue to liberate towns and villages in the Kyiv region from the Russian occupying troops.
