602 Ukrainian children killed and wounded in Russian invasion, most of them in Donbas

On 23 April, a 3-month-old baby was killed by a Russian rocket that hit a residential building in Odesa. In the Mykolayiv region, a 9-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl were wounded by an exploding mine.

The number of Ukrainian children killed in the war has reached 213.

Quote: "Over 602 children in Ukraine have become victims of the full-scale Russian Federation’s armed aggression of the past two months. According to the official data as of the morning of 24 April 2022, 213 children have been killed and over 389 wounded.

These numbers are being updated with new information coming in from areas of active combat, temporarily occupied territories, and recently liberated areas.

Details: The highest number of affected children was recorded in the Donetsk region – 122, followed by the Kyiv region – 114, Kharkiv region – 91, Chernihiv – 66, Kherson – 44, Mykolayiv – 43, Luhansk – 37, Zaporizhia – 27, Sumy – 17, City of Kyiv – 16, and Zhytomyr – 15.

On 23 April, a Russian rocket strike aimed at a residential building in Odesa killed a mother with 3-month-old baby.

On the same day, a 9-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl were wounded by a detonated mine near Novokyivka village in Mykolayiv region.

Two young actors of the Donetsk Regional Drama Theatre were reported killed in the Russian shelling of Mariupol.

On 22 April, a 17-year-old boy was killed by the Russian shelling of civilian infrastructure in the village of Kamyanske in the Zaporizhia region.

On the same day, a body of a 16-year old boy with signs of shell wounds was found by the law enforcement authorities investigating Russian war crimes in the Bucha district of Kyiv region.

1,500 educational facilities have been damaged as a result of daily shelling and missile strikes of Ukrainian towns and villages by the Russian forces, including 102 which were completely destroyed.

Background: According to preliminary estimates of Ukrainian authorities, as of 27 March, close to 5 thousand persons had been killed in Mariupol, including some 210 children. As of 12 April, the number of civilian victims in Mariupol was estimated at 20-22 thousand. It is impossible to obtain accurate numbers at the moment.
