Serhii Haidai, Head of the Luhansk Oblast Military Administration, has said that Russian occupying forces are suffering defeats on the front lines and have resorted to extreme measures to replenish the ranks of their "army" by recruiting residents from the occupied territories of Luhansk Oblast.

Quote from Haidai: "Forced mobilisation continues apace in the occupied cities [of Luhansk Oblast]. [The Russians] are waiting on young parents outside of kindergartens. Over 10 Russian attacks have been repelled on the front."

Details: Haidai also said that Russian forces attempted to attack the positions of Ukrainian troops on the administrative border between Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts 11 times over the course of 17 August. All attacks came from different directions. The Ukrainian Armed Forces have repelled each of these attacks, inflicted losses on the Russians and forced them to retreat.

On the night of 17 August, a Russian sabotage and reconnaissance group attempted to improve its tactical position but was unsuccessful.

The Russian occupiers used artillery to support their combat operations: they used multiple-launch rocket systems and tubed artillery four times. Several attacks that involved tank guns have also been reported in the oblast.

In addition, Russian aircraft carried out four airstrikes.

Meanwhile, military commissariat staff on the occupied territories of Luhansk Oblast are resorting to extreme measures to replenish the ranks of the Russian army, Haidai added.

Quote from Haidai: "In the city of Luhansk, men have for a long time avoided going outside unless necessary. Many have left the city altogether and are lying low in villages.

The occupiers have recently started offering food to elderly women outside their homes in exchange for information about men. Now they’ve resorted to a totally insane approach: they’re waiting [for men] near kindergartens. Just a few days ago they detained a young father in order to 'mobilise' him. They don’t care that no one will be able to pick the kid up from the kindergarten in the evenings."
