German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius has commented against supplying Ukraine with German fighter jets to deter Russian aggression.

This was said in an interview to Suddeutsche Zeitung, reports European Pravda.

"I think that this is out of the question. Fighter jets are much more complex systems than combat tanks, they have a more significant flight range and firepower. With this we would plunge into depths that I would be very cautious about."

Earlier, after announcements in the media that Ukraine will receive Leopard 2 main battle tanks from Germany and M1 Abrams from the US, Dmytro Kuleba, the Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs asserted that Ukraine’s friends "are working on" supplying F-16 fighter jets.

At the same time, after Germany’s decision to supply main battle tanks to Ukraine, German Chancellor Olaf Sholtz has outlined the redline in subsequent military support - in particular, he spoke against supplying Ukraine with fighter jets and deployment of ground troops.

Nevertheless, Wopke Hoekstra, the Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands has said last week that the supply of F-16 is "not a taboo" for the Netherlands, if Ukraine happens to ask for them. Slovakia, on the other hand, has spoken directly of supplying Ukraine with Soviet-erq Mig-29s.
