Second phase of Peace Formula: Ukraine's President's Office chief announces meeting with advisers in Saudi Arabia

The next meeting of advisers to state leaders on the implementation of the Peace Formula, proposed by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, will be held soon in Saudi Arabia.

Details: Yermak says that in order to implement the Peace Formula, the Ukrainian side uses a three-phase structure. The first phase entails meetings with ambassadors accredited in Ukraine, which are devoted to a detailed consideration of each of the points, outlined in the Peace Formula. 

In the second phase, Ukraine initiates meetings of national security advisers in order to find optimal formulations and mechanisms for implementing the peace plan.

Quote: "We organised the first such meeting in partnership with Danish colleagues. It took place in Copenhagen in June. The next meeting will take place soon. It will be hosted by a Saudi city. We thank both kingdoms for their leadership and strong support of Ukrainian initiatives."

Details: The third stage of agreeing on the Peace Formula, Yermak added, would be the founding global summit at the level of state leaders, which could take place before the end of the year.

As Yermak emphasised, Ukraine seeks to attract the widest possible range of countries that respect international law and the UN Charter.

Quote: "We are deeply convinced that the Ukrainian peace plan should be taken as a basis, because the war is taking place on our land. At the same time, in consultations with all interested parties, we seek to take into account opinions and positions that do not contradict the key principles of international law and the provisions of the UN Charter."

On 29 July, The Wall Street Journal reported that the second meeting on ending the war in Ukraine will take place in Saudi Arabia on 5-6 August, with representatives of 30 countries being invited to attend.

Background:

• In May, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed the idea of holding a global peace summit with the participation of as many states as possible in order to enlist their support for the Ukrainian Peace Formula.
• In June, a meeting of political advisers and national security advisers from one and a half dozen countries around the world, including three BRICS members and the USA, was held in Copenhagen. The participants discussed the key principles of achieving peace in Ukraine.
• Following a meeting in Copenhagen, the EU suggested that a peace summit on Ukraine could take place before the end of the year.
• In an interview on 27 July, Zelenskyy spoke of an upcoming meeting in Saudi Arabia. "There was already a meeting in Copenhagen, now a second meeting is planned in Saudi Arabia. I'm glad Brazil will be there. Then we will go to the summit on the Peace Formula," he said.
