Kremlin does not rule out resumption of trilateral talks between Russia, Ukraine and US

Moscow does not rule out the possibility of resuming peace talks in a trilateral format between Russia, Ukraine and the US, Dmitry Peskov, press secretary to the Russian leader, has said.

Quote: "As for resuming the trilateral format, you heard the statement from Kyiv yesterday. Mr Kushner [Jared Kushner, son-in-law of US President Donald Trump – ed.] made such statements. We too do not rule out resuming this trilateral format."

Details: Peskov added, however, that "it's too early to talk about the location or exact timeframe just yet".

He also did not rule out that peace in Ukraine might be "getting closer" following talks held in Moscow and Kyiv with Donald Trump's special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

Quote: "Undoubtedly, any attempts that are more or less effective represent one small step towards peace. We greatly appreciate the peacemaking efforts of the American negotiators."

Background:

On 5 September, talks were held in Moscow between Donald Trump's special envoys and Russian ruler Vladimir Putin.
Yuri Ushakov, an aide to Putin, said Putin told the US president's envoys during talks that he is confident his war aims will be achieved. The White House described the talks as "substantive" and announced that the next steps will be unveiled in the coming weeks.
On the afternoon of 6 September, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the start of talks with Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
Zelenskyy said several rounds of talks will take place in Kyiv – first with Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, then with negotiators from France, the United Kingdom and Germany.
After the three rounds of talks concluded, Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that during talks in Kyiv the discussions covered not only potential parameters for ending the war but also short-term support for Ukraine.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that several new ideas regarding the next stage of negotiations were put forward during talks in Kyiv with the US presidential envoys and Ukraine's European partners.
