The Russian occupiers in Berdiansk have reported an explosion in the city port presuming it may have been a "terrorist attack".

Quote: "Berdiansk port is heavily mined… I don’t have any information at the moment because the explosion has just occurred…

It’s clear that a terrorist attack can’t be ruled out, but I’m not saying that’s the case because I don’t know what has happened there."

Details: Eyewitnesses are sharing videos on social media showing thick black smoke rising from the port. They also claim to have heard two explosions.

Rogov claims that Ukrainian partisans have recently blown up a transformer substation in the city. Russians had claimed previously that the substation had exploded due to a "short circuit".

Background:

  • Russian forces occupied Berdiansk on 27-28 February at the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
  • On 24 March in the occupied port of Berdiansk, a large Russian landing ship of the Black Sea Fleet, the "Orsk", was destroyed. The fire engulfed other ships, fuel and ammunition.
  • There has already been a report about a powerful explosion that occurred in Berdiansk port on 2 June.
  • British newspaper The Times has interviewed soldiers from the Special Operation Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who said that they’re carrying out sabotage operations deep in the interior of the territory occupied by the Russians.
