Self-proclaimed Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has said that he will not enter the war against Ukraine on the side of Russia because of the strong fortifications, minefields and a large military group of forces on the border.

Quote from Lukashenko: "If we were to go to war against Ukraine today, it would do nothing. Because they [the Ukrainians – ed.] have the border with Belarus fortified so that you can't get there."

Details: According to Lukashenko, the border is completely mined and concreted. He also estimated the number of Ukrainian troops on the Belarusian border at 120,000.

"Well, they want to send the troops on the border to the front [against Russia – ed.], and put the French here. We are waiting," Lukashenko said.

  • President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on 6 April, commenting on the possibility of a new Russian offensive from Belarus, that Ukraine currently sees no such threats. "As far as the strategy is concerned, we do not see any plans, threats or capabilities from Belarus so far," he said.
  • At the same time, Zelenskyy said that the Russians should know that Ukraine is building a reliable defence in the north.
